The old guy still tried to keep up with the young folks and conquer the slalom course. He made it around 4 balls.
Karly on One
Karly went slalom this summer and even did the course.
Summer Fun
Sam improved on the wakeboard immensely. Carson said, "Sam just wants to go, go, go everyday. Its like he's making up for lost time." And indeed, he missed a year of his life and he didn't want to miss a minute of this summer.

No Hair for Christmas
Sam beat the odds for his first 6 months of treatment - he kept his hair the whole time. After the last bout of doxorubicin though his hair ALL fell out.
Lucy Gets Shoes
It has been -20 to -30 every day for the past 2 weeks. Lucy was having a tough time with her 'inside' pads on her paws. So, we got her some boots. They are little red boots with Vibram Gripper soles. She can run and walk outside now without her feet sticking to the ice.

Lucy - Again
My sister said, "Lucy sure gets a lot of exposure on the blog!" And I said, "Of course she does - she's the best dog in the world!" I can't believe we have a dog! My sister misses her terribly but they couldn't have a dog in London so Lucy made a new home here with us. And we love her to bits!
Heart Surgery
Ger came back after spending 4 days in Vancouver with his Mom and Dad. Ger's Dad had heart surgery on Thursday at VGH and all turned out well. They were glad that Ger could come to drive them to the hospital and care for them while he recovered.

One, Two, Three
All three needles, at the same exact moment, get inserted by three chemo nurses... ouch! Sam grimaces but otherwise toughs it out!
Smiley Faces
Minnette draws happy faces on Sam's legs to mark the spot where the three needles will be inserted. They put EMLA cream on the spot so that Sam doesn't feel it quite so much.
Darlene and Josh
Gramma and Grandpa and Darlene and Josh came over for dinner. Darlene and Josh are en route to London England where they have just moved. It will be a big change from living in Charlotte NC. They were sad to say goodbye to Lucy once again...
Prayer
Pray that we won't have to be admitted to the hospital due to infection.
Pray that God will be glorified through all that happens in Sam's fight with A.L.L.

Rain on Flowers
Raining
The flower with all the petals and leaves on it is the healthy flower. It has a sad face because it is raining. The wilted, bald flower is the cancerous flower. It may be a little wilted and have no petals or leaves but it is happy to be alive even if it is raining. The healthy flower doesn't know how lucky it is to be alive and have all its petals. All it's worried about is the rain. This is true in real life as well. When I was getting my chemo in the hospital I would listen to what people were complaining about and I would think "If that's all you have to worry about then you are doing pretty well." People would act like it were the end of the world if the fan was blowing too hard on them or if they would get home in time for dinner but I was worrying about whether I would get better or would I die? Our day will come.

Wakeboarding
Dr. Bond said, "Do whatever you feel like you can do. But I don't think you're going to feel well enough to do much." He felt OK to wakeboard!

Prayer
We have all enjoyed having a yard. We have played many games of croquet with friends and family.
We are really enjoying our second "home " here in Vancouver. It is close to the hospital, lots of trails to walk, run, and bike in, and just a few minutes from the beach.
We are thankful for the exceptional people we are surrounded with who are supporting us in prayer and in so many practical ways...you have blessed us tremendously.
Pray that Sam will not get an allergic reaction to the Asparaginase injections on August 13.

Lots of fun in Steveston and a needed break from the cancer treatment regime.
Great Friendships
The Uys made another special trip to Vancouver to visit Sam. What great friends we have. It sure brightened our days and made for a great weekend for Sam.

Everybody Wanted Pictures
Grandpas, grandmas, aunts and uncles, moms and dads all showed up to support in one way or another this event. Several people made it a broader statement of their support of people with cancer - this was a great reminder that cancer has impacted all of our lives in one way or another.

Mr. Costley's Outdoor Education 11 Class at Cedars for 2008. We got a lot of rain (about 85% of the time) but it was still a 10/10 trip. This is an incredible opportunity for educating students in a very different classroom! Mr. Costley has this trip down to a fine art and it was fun!
Tent Buddies
Ger bunked with Gary Vaale in Gary's tent. He's a true outdoorsman and Ger had an absolutely wonderful time with Gary on this trip.
Creation
We enjoyed seeing the beauty of creation together last weekend. It was a truly wonderful experience to be in the mountains, on the water, together.

All the people on the chart are committed to shaving for the brave on Tuesday, June 17. We're having a very special chapel to shave all these people's hair off live. Even the newspaper is coming. The last person will be our wonderful and lively secretary Rosie!
