July 15

Yesterday was again a beautiful day in sunny Vancouver. Sam slept for a good portion of the day, trying to regain his strength after a very hard weekend. His fever has passed but he still finds it very difficult to keep food down. He seems to be losing noticeable weight every day. Gramma and Grampa came over for dinner last night and we enjoyed 2 games of croquet together. Sam has to sit down between turns but he still managed to beat everyone on the second game.

Today he woke up feeling pretty good, and hungry and ate a big breakfast. Tomorrow we go back to BCCH for another round of chemotherapy - an injection in the spine and a round of Vincristine through his central line...

Its a long road, full of ups and downs every day. Kate comes back from visiting her auntie tomorrow evening, Karly is staying in PG until the summer games (July 23), and Saturday Kate and her 4 friends from PG ride the Greyhound to Campbell River for a week of sailing at Camp Homewood. Busy times.

Have a great day.

Ger

Coming back to brouse your blog reminds me that there is much going on in the world outside of my own life. Again I am amazed at what a broad support base God has blessed you with, and all of us really.

On the school front I/we have been working busily to get everything in order for the fall. Keep your basketball skills up - the new hoops are on order and will be waiting for you in August!

I keep all of you in my prayers for the long haul.

Oh, and Gerry - Ian tells me you're quite the croquet player - I think he termed you the Croquet Natzi! I say "Good on you Sam for beating everyone" - keep it up!

God is great!

Hi Goertzen family -
glad to see you've had some larger family time together, it's tough to be apart, I'm sure. We continue to pray for you all - now you're all going different directions, that sounds like our world too. Your kids get to an age where you don't all holiday together anymore, so we treasure anytime that we can.
We just returned from a short vacation in Panorama - from the 8th to the 12th- Cam's cousin and her two kids each brought a friend, and Chyenne brought a friend, and we had a ball. Missed Chantel and Bizz, but they were working, what can you do.
Hiking, driving range, big golf, mini golf, tennis, biking, scootering, swimming, hot tubbing, cooking, crazy games til 1 in the morning - a good time was had by all.
Cam really needed a break from the relentless pace of the construction world here. He could work 18 hour days for weeks and not be ahead of the game. Kind of scary. While we won't be going for another week long jaunt, we will try to get some weekends in so that he gets some fun in his life.
Wish we could dash over and challenge you to a game of croquet, and then maybe some Dutch Blitz - the noise level we achieved at the chalet could scare off any germs, or bears! It was nice to be in our own spot, not in the village this year.
We also just finished Stampeding - yahoo! Bizz worked at Lammle's - the premier western wear provider for 10 days solid. It was wearying, but she managed! Now she's started a new job at Annie's, the little cafe at the historical park just below our neighbourhood in Fish Creek. It'll be a walk in the park next to the frenzied Stampede job! What a show they put on this year, though, I've never seen so many fireworks in one performance. Oy. Overwhelming, almost.
Good to be home and get some projects done now - like a Traub get-together in our park next week. Steve and Nanci are coming through town next week and hinted broadly they'd like to participate in our yearly summer (or winter) shindig for local Traubs, or passing relatives. It'll be great. Bocce tournament on the horizon! Last time Steve and Nanci and I hung out, I got thrown from a galloping horse in a thunderstorm. Bocce's safer. Then in August, we'll be back in Kelowna (Westbank) for Cam's folks' 50th. Hope it goes well.
Here's a great big hug from me to you - (no, I'm not purple) and an "I love you all" from the Calgary Traubs who are thinking of you and praying for you every day.
I thank God for you on every remembrance for your friendship, even though we're far apart geographically, you're never far from my thoughts. <3 Heather & the Traubles
