Sunday - August 17

Last night was one of those incredible Vancouver evenings with clear sky, a light breeze and an absolutely spectacular sunset and moon rise. It was so great to see the Uy family. We played ultimate frisbee, tried the skim boards, and walked back up the hill. It was a great way to end my time in Vancouver.

We are going to try to do the next section of Sam's treatment in Prince George with flights down to BCCH for the spinal injections. It is another unknown when it seems like we just got comfortable with all the people at BCCH, but it would make a real difference in our family if we were together and it would make it a lot easier for Sam and Debbie to be at home. We have been so thankful for the places we've been able to stay since May 15th. The apartment in White Rock was perfect. The house close to BCCH was also exceptional. And, the 8 days at my sister's cabin was just a bonus we never thought we would see this summer.

We received a ton of pictures from Tony R. who put together a wonderful set of PowerPoint presentations of his time at NLBC as Camp Grampa. It was awesome to see all the fun at NLBC. Sam will enjoy those times at camp again in the future.

Thanks for all your prayers. I'm driving home today. I officially pass the blog baton back to Debbie :)

Dear Sam and "Fam"

Hi there! I know it has been a long (too long) time since we have talked to you. We have not forgotten about you. We pray for you everyday and read the blog to see your progress. It is always a flood of emotions when we read the blog, and it is sometimes difficult to know what to say.
We are delighted to see the wonderful pictures of you, Sam, as well as the rest of your family. We are glad you are able to enjoy some summer fun in the sunny south. Say that five times quickly! Joel misses having you across the street as do the other kids in the neighbourhood.
Joel went to a couple of hockey schools this summer. He went to Terrace to visit some old friends (we moved away from Terrace when he was 6). After warning him that it might not be the same, it was like stepping back in time, and he was sad to leave. Now Joel is spending 2 weeks on his uncle's farm in northern Saskatchewan. Today he was helping to round up cattle and his uncle said he was quite good at it! This will be the last year Joel's uncle will have cattle,(over 100 head), so it was quite nice that Joel was able to go this year. Joel's hair is growing in - he might even need a haircut before school! Janessa was scared of him when he shaved his head! She wouldn't go near him for about 3 days! Janessa is walking all over (more like running). She keeps us very busy!
This year we are looking after Operatoin Christmas Child for the Prince George area, so we have been busy preparing for that. The shoe boxes will be here in a few weeks! It is hard to think about Christmas in the middle of August!
It sounds as though you are having alot of company down there. I hope it won't be too long before you can come home and see your old friends! Take care of yourselves and each other. God Bless you.
With love, the Peltiers.

Hey Sam and the rest of you Goertzens; thought I'd tell you guys what happened in August so far and say some other stuff.
We went to Saskatchewan for two weeks, getting back on Monday, for my cousin's wedding. We stopped in Calgary to see some other relatives, and then we went to my Grandma Eby's house in a little (really little) town called Drake. That Thursday we went to a Saskatchewan football game, 4 uncles (including my dad) and 12 cousins including 2 girlfriends and one friend. We had a total blast and managed to knock some sense into my cousin who for some reason, can't have anything to do with the fact that he lives in B.C., liked the B.C. Lions. Not anymore. Now our family is Roughriders all the way through (except for one in-law). My cousins wedding was canceled, so we just hung out and had a really aweosme time. The older cousins (13 to 27) went out for a fancy meal in our 'spiffy' clothes because we needed an excuse to wear them. Then we kidnapped my one uncle and sent the others on a treasure hunt. It was all good times. It was really cool too because we talked about my Grandpa who died in February and I learned some really inspiring things about his walk with Christ that I never knew. On our way home we stopped in Edmonton for shopping and the amusment park, and then at the Columbia Icefields for one of those big bus things. Good times.
I love reading your blog. It is so inspiring and so cool to see how you guys are handling things, having fun on the good days, and just keeping on trucking through the bad ones. I love how you have verses on your barf bucket, and how Karly mad a target. When my mama was morning sick with Taylor, she used one of our beach buckets, and then Meg wouldn't use it at the beach ever again because it was the "barf bucket." That's so cool you had/have a Christian nurse. It's so cool how God puts people in our lives when we need them, to encourage us and lift our spirits. One time I was feeling down so I prayed for a hug and 5 minutes later Niki Crichton barges into my room, scaring me half to death with a real hug and a pillow that felt like one.
Praying for you
Kayla
P.S. My hair has grown more than an inch, but it still isn't quite laying down so i've got a 'straight afro' LOL

Hi Debbie, Sam & Family,

Sorry we haven't gotten back to you. We think and pray for you all often. We only wish we could have conected with you when we were there. Hopefully the flowers were nice! We really enjoyed our trip, we both came back totally exhausted and Mom was sick. Probably picked up a bug she thought. However it was an awesome adventure. Our house has been a revolving door since we have gotten home. Lots of people coming or going. We are going to try to get out there in the fall. So perhaps we can connect then. We will continue to pray for you all. Love you Rowena & Holly
