First chapter, our first time admitted in BCCH has come to an end. Thank you Donna (deb's sister), Noni and Phil (Ger's brother's family), grandma and grandpa Goertzen, Ladonna and Mel, Sarah H, the Uys, Martins, our school board, the staff and faculty at Cedars, people at Westwood and so many others too numerous too mention here (and there were alot) who have helped us through this first chapter in such practical ways (food, visits, driving, looking after our kids etc). We have heard that there are literally hundreds of people praying for Sam and our family. We can feel that... and God is with us.
Yesterday went really well. Anita and Debbie went over to the White Rock apartment and got things ready (it was very clean and organized so they just had to find things and get things together). The place is perfect. The card that Judy (JP's mom) wrote to us made us cry. She wrote how their whole family was united on providing this place for us for Sam to recover in - "Don't worry about anything in the place, all the precious stuff is gone and you guys just enjoy the apartment with no worries..." What an incredible answer to our prayers. And it is just a few blocks away from my parents' place.
Joel and the boys helped carry all the stuff in and Debbie and Anita did a big shop at Costco to set things up for a few weeks. In the afternoon, we played a game of Monopoly (surf edition- thanks Holliers its great fun!) and Sam watched from the couch and played his Nintendo DS with Landon. It was a really nice afternoon. By six pm Sam was completely exhausted. That's the longest he'd been up for 2 weeks. His chemo treatment from Friday was still making him feel pretty sick.
Later, we opened all the cards and gifts that were sent down to Sam. It was overwhelming really to see so much care and thoughtfulness from so many people from home. What an amazing community we have that would support us in so many practical ways. All of you will never know how much we have been blessed by your actions during this time. We have spent many times in tears thinking about how people have cared for us in the last 2 weeks. Thank you.
We get internet on Tuesday at the new place and then Debbie can keep the blog going from White Rock. K8 and Karly and I will be flying home on Monday morning. Sam has appointments at BCCH on Monday and Friday is another big treatment - but hopefully no spinal or bone marrow punctures.
Thanks again for everything. God is caring for us through the hands of his people.

Good to see the net going up! Glad the girls could come down and shower you with love. We'll have to be virtual visitors for now. I participated in my first art show on Saturday - it was really exciting to see the crowds come to our painting teacher's home to see our stuff. It felt like kindergarten parents night! Actually sold my first piece. The neatest thing was the conversation we all had in the kitchen as we were cleaning up, it was so encouraging. Two of my colleagues have faced cancer in the past couple of years - and are winning. Good to hear their stories. Yours is still being written, and you're writing it well. Love to the Gs from the Ts. Hey Sam!
So glad to see you fighting through this... and with a smile too! We are praying for you like crazy here and checking the blog daily. Hope it's been a blast to have your sisters there and I saw that hoop. Wow that is awesome! I'm sure your dad is pumped about that haha. Your blog has really touched my heart and I know it has others too...you are the bravest kid. Keep it up :.) Phil 4:13 - Marianne

Hey Sam
This is my first posting well my second my first one was lost or something so this is going to be a long one.
First up is your continuous good attitude. This is much more important than you think! My dad always says if you are sick and go around saying it's not very bad I’m not that sick then you are going to get better faster. So keep up the positive attitude, it'll definitely pay off!
Second up (this is a little late but...) Nice blue DS!! I would say that the best game I have played and that I think you would like to play is Mario kart DS. Also now when you come back to Prince George in December I will know a total; of 8 people with DS's, that is good because in Mario Cart when you play against other people you can have a max of 8 people participating.
Third up (once again a bit late, and is going to be short) i love the picture from a couple days ago it looks like you really have an amazing attitude about this all.
Fourth and final thing is that i want you to know that everone in class, and the entire school is praying for you. Whenever I am reminded of you, I prayed for you during my flipturn in swimming and got water up my nose, and on saterday i prayed for you during my 1500meret frestyle race witch i did very well on
i hope i'll be able to right again and it will be shorter than this one hopefully!

Hi Goertzens,
The neighborhood just isn't the same without you! We miss the constant sound of the basketball bouncing on your driveway. We miss the sight of seeing you all working in your yard, or coming and going for school or the kids activities. It just feels like something is missing when we are all standing outside chatting while the children all play..... I have told you before what an amazing family you are, and what a privilege and an honor it has been to have you in our lives. We are leaving for Kamloops in a few days, but plan to keep in touch to know that you are all ok!
