Today was hard, but good, for a lot of reasons. First, it was hard for Katelyn, Karly and me to leave Sam and Debbie behind and head home on Westjet. I've been with Sam for 2 weeks, day and night and today I left him behind. That was hard. Second, Debbie had to take Sam to BCCH by herself for a 2pm appointment. Just before they left, Sam asked, "Do you think we could ask if Grandpa would want to come along?" Debbie phoned and he graciously offered to come. It was a good thing too because Sam was sick the entire way to BCCH and by the time they got there he was too weak to even get out of the car. They had to get a wheelchair to get him into the clinic. They accessed his VAD and got him on IV fluids and Anti-nausea drugs which seemed to help. Grandpa was there to ask the medical questions and to follow along with Sam's treatment and their description of it all.
Today was good because so many people have been praying that Sam would respond well to the treatment and fight back the cancer in his body. Today, Dr. Lucy came in with a big smile and exclaimed, "I've got good news for you guys today. Sam presented with 96% leukemic cancer cells in his bone marrow on his first day at BCCH. Last Friday, after his first week of treatment, the bone marrow biopsy showed only 11% leukemia cells left and excellent blood work of WBC 1.0, Hgb 108, Plt 119 and ANC 0.38. These are excellent results because it means the cancer cells are leaving and the room they've left behind are allowing the healthy cells to start working again. Great news Sam!"
So, keep praying! When the results get below 5%, he is officially into remission. The rest of the treatment over the next three years is meant to make sure every single cancer cell is obliterated forever in his body. This is what we'll pray for during this week and especially on Friday when he gets his next chemo treatment.
I came home to a clean house, a full fridge (including two meals) my yard work all done by my neighbors and our new dog Lucy healthy as can be (thanks uncle walt and ruth!). Thank you all who helped!
I'll be going in to work tomorrow morning. That will be hard, but good too. I dropped by this afternoon and was instantly greeted by such warmth and love from our staff and parents. It was great.
Sam's orthodontists (Elliot/Lo) and their staff sent Sam a huge care package and cards wishing him well. Thank you! It made his day as he waited for the doctors to set up his IV.
Thanks everyone for all you've done for us. We appreciate it so much...
Ger

Hi Goertzen's,
Wow, is that ever awesome about Sam's test results. Fantastic news. Gerry and girls, glad you made it home safe although I'm sure it is bittersweet to be there without Deb and Sam.
What to go Sam on your test results and just keep fighting....we are all praying for you and love you lots.

Hi Sam
How are you doin'? we are praying for you!! Good test results. How are you feelin'?
Hailey Z.
Hey Sam! Nice test results, my mom's going to have to explain them to me though, lol. I saw your dad at school today and talked to him for a bit, he's got a funny tan line on his hear from where he used to have hair. That's so cool that he shaved if for you. My dad wouldn't have much hair to shave off if I ever got cancer, but if he reads this, i'm going to get pinned down and tickled until I scream so loud the windows shatter! I've got a joke for you, well not really a joke, the guys at school told it today, i didn't appreciate it, but i thought you might. God told Adam that he needed a companion. She would keep him company, be incredibly beautiful, helpful, caring, companionable and such. But, God said that it would cost Adam an arm and a leg. Well, said Adam, what can I get for a rib? I really didn't appreciate that, it would work better if us girls came first, but whatever. Keep smilin! And I'm praying that the nausea will go down a level or two, i hate being sick, I can't imagine what it would feel like around the clock.

Hi, Sam. You really are an amazing kid to be able to go through this... it does mean that God knows you're strong enough to face trials. He won't give you more than you can bear.

Hey Sam...and everyone else who is reading this blog and comments.
(This is Kate, Sams sister)
I really wanted to say thank you so muhc for all of you support, and prayer. It has helped us soo much.
Well for me this weekend i went down to see sam. I saw the room he was staying in, it was kinda small, and saw other places of the hospital, it was neat to see where Sam was going and wat he was doing there.
Wow, one thing that i really loved was how sweet all the nurses and doc's were. They seemed to just be so great with ppl and kids. One nurse was Heather..she was pretty funny, and made us all laugh alot, even Sam which was great.
I am so glad that God has been answerng our prayers, wiht his counts, and places to stay, all of our friends and family down in Vancouver have helped wiht getting us places and brnging food. That is what will keep us all going...knwing that we have so much support all around us. Thanks again to everyone!
One thing that i loved doing this weekend, was watching Home Improvement with Sam, everyone had left to do stuff, and same and me watched tv, it was great to see him laugh, and smile, it made me soo happy to see that. Also playing wiht his chopper was alot of fun, its one crazy machine, and goes crazy...it almost feels like a giant bug when it flies near you. (we have a pic of it on the blog) And watching sam laugh, and for as much as he could be himself. It was great.
Well i just thoght i should share wiht you how things are going with me.
Thnkas againg for everything everyone.
Love,
Kate

Hey Sam
This one isn't going to be as long as my first one but here it goes.
First up: Well I forgot to say this before but Mrs Avery uses the phrase "the doctors will continue to treat Sam..." and whenever she says the "Treat Sam" part I always think about a doctor holding a doggy biscuit and you on the ground panting like a dog for the biscuit. I guess that's not how it works.
Second up: Last time I made a comment I said something about a picture from two days ago but I realized that I didn't say which picture. I meant the no-braces one.
Third up (now for today)Wow! Those test results are amazing! Looks like if things stay like this you'll be in remission soon.
I am trying to make a habit of reading your blog daily but it is hard so all of my entries are going to be long because I don't have much time any other time. If you don't hear from me you can remember that I most likly have read the blog but don't have time to respond, sorry.
sincerely,
Josiah (i am not lazy today)
Great news Sam! There are So many people praying for you and your family. Today I walked into my high school..it was weird..haven't been there in seven years! But anyway, one of the retired princaples were there, we know each other, and saw me and asked how you were. She said that a lot of people from ACS, were praying for you. God is good. Your one tough cookie! What a blessing to have your grandparents so close to you that they can come when ever you need them. I can see God all though out the last tow weeks of your journey. He is poring his love down on you Sam. What a great God. When people ask me about you, I tell them how brave and strong you are. You are a living testamnoney to so many people, including my self. You are so special Sam.
Consider your self hugged...and please give you mom a big hug from me and tell her I love her.
