Thank you for all your wonderful comments on the blog! We look forward to reading them everyday and feel much more connected to you through that. Sam enjoys his special comments and would love to hear the highlights of your day at school, as this will keep him in the loop with what's happening there. We really like this blog idea and hope you understand that we just cannot reply to all your emails.
Sam's in good spirits both yesterday and today. Last night he received a phone call from his cousin Mike and had the longest conversation since we arrived here. As I was heading out the door to get Sam something from the kitchen I said to him, "Wow, that was your longest conversation, you must be feeling better!" His quick reply was, "I'd feel better if I didn't have cancer!" Wouldn't we all.
Gearing up for a big day tomorrow. Sam's hemoglobin is ok, but his platelets are too low, so he will be transfused with more platelets early Friday morning (6am). They cannot do his bone marrow biospsy/aspiration and lumbar puncture without the transfusion. He has already received numerous blood and platelets transfusions since we've been here. Chemo tomorrow after the two procedures that will be directly placed in his new VAD.
We plan to be discharged on Saturday if all goes well we will take him to our new "home away from home" in White Rock.
Thank you to our family members and friends who offered to have us stay in their homes, or your extended family's homes. Once again we are bowled over by the acts of generosity and kindness that we can't even begin to reciprocate. J.P. and Marnie's family have a condo in White Rock, that is 2 minutes from Ger's parent's home. I am feeling overwhelmed with the sole responsibility of caring for Sam. With Ger's parents living so close, I will have the medical, physical, emotional, and spiritual support we will need to look after Sam's new care regime.

We went outside on the deck for a few minutes today in the sunshine. It was beautiful. Sam picked up the flat basketball, looked at the hoop (with no net), took one shot (which missed) and wanted to sit down. He really is worn out. At home we'd have been playing for an hour and I would quit long before he was ready to...
We found a book in the Family Resource Library today with the title: "Ya Can't Let Cancer Ruin Your Day." It is a story of another boy with cancer and his indomitable will to live each day to the fullest. It reminds us of Sam.Today the doctor asked him, 'How are you doing?'
and Sam said, "Good!"
"How are you feeling?"
"Good"
"No complaints?"
"Nope everything's good"
"I think you're the first patient I've had who spent a week in the hopsital and has no complaints!"
And, that is Sam...

We'll have special prayers for you tomorrow morning, Sam. It sounds like you have a "full day" ahead of you. And then a special request to God that you may go to your "home away from home" on Saturday. Remember, when you're going through all of this there are special prayers going up to our Father on your behalf as well as for your parents and sisters. Have a good night's rest!

Hey Sam! Here's my joke for the day - Why is what you find always in the last place you look?
*Because after you find it, you stop looking, making that the last place you look.
We're praying for you in class and at home. Keep strong

Last night i wrote a huge long comment to you and i lost it. so here i am writing it again! as soon as i found out you had leukemia i was shocked . i can not imagine how hard it is for you to go through. While i was looking at your blog i was so happy that sam has such a positive attitude. To the whole Goertzen family: This blog is a great idea. We check it daily and are totally in awe to see a smiling Sam! We count it a privelege to pray with you guys (and with probably HUNDREDS of others! Isn't that cool?). We'll be anxious to hear about tomorrow. Thanks so much for keeping us informed. You are an inspiration to us Sam!
We continue to pray for you without ceasing! We enjoy the updates on your blog, it helps us to better understand a bit of what you're facing and how to pray for you.

HI SAM, JUST THOUGHT I'D SAY HI. IT'S AMAZING TO ME HOW MANY PEOPLE IN OUR SCHOOL ARE PRAYING FOR YOU AND WHENEVER WE HAVE SPARE TIME ADN WE ARE TELLING JOKES SOMEONE SAYS, HEY, WE SHOULD SEND THESE TO SAM! (A BUNCH OF US ARE READIDNG THIS SO WE KNOW HOW MUCH YOU LIKE THEM) I HAVE A KINDA STUPID FUNNY ONE, BUT IT'S ONLY FUNNY TOLD IN PERSON, SO, YOU'LL BE WAITING IN SUSPENSE UNTIL YOU GET BACK HERE TO P.G. BUT I DO HAVE ANOTHER ONE. WHAT DO YOU CALL A NUT TAPED TO THE WALL? A WALNUT, AND MEGAN'S FAVOURITE JOKE SINCE FOREVER (I GOT SICK OF IT AFTER 2 WEEKS, BUT YOU KNOW, SHE'S STILL TELLING IT 2 YEARS LATER...) WHY DID THE BOY PUT LIPSTICK ON HIS FOREHEAD? BECAUSE HE WANTED TO MAKE UP HIS MIND! HAHAHAHAHAHA... WELL, HOPE YOU ARE FEELING BETTER THAN YOU WERE, AND I'LL BE PRAYING, AND SO WILL MY CLASS AS YOU GO THROUGH YOUR TREATMENTS TOMORROW, JUST KEEP SMILING, AND BY THE WAY, I NEED SOME NEW JOKES FOR MEGAN, GOT ANY GOOD ONES?
KAYLA EBY!!!!!
Hi Sam hope you'll be able to shoot at least one hoop when you sisters get there with the net. Mr. Costley just laughed when I told him what your Dad wanted, and him, Karly and myself all said the exact same thing. He's probably down there training all the chemo kids!!!! The office girls sent down a couple of food cards for you, one is for Starbucks, and we decided that you can buy your Dad a coffee if you want to, but, only if you want to. Praying hard for you Sam, we miss your daily visits to the office looking for, you know who!

Hi Sam! By now you will be sleeping. But you are still on our minds and hearts as we get ready for bed. Tonight our family gathered around and prayed once again for you. We thought all was finished when... Keyarah had to have the last prayer. It was her sixth birthday today and I couldn't help but think of you in an extra special way today. Every time you came to mind today (which is often these days :>) I kept thinking of how great you are with Keyarah. From the time she was born you have always taken time to say hi to her and to make her feel special. You have spent time playing with her and even have had her sit in class with you. So today as we celebrate Keyarah, we celebrate you SAM! For the great guy you are..for the love you show...and for the friend you are to so many. Sweet dreams, we continue to lift you up to our Father again tomorrow.
Much love, Mrs.Belbeck
Dear Sam, Debbie and Ger:
Staff and students at Centennial Christian in Terrace are praying for you all.
We are thankful that you have all the support you need.
I hope Ger is not going into withdrawal about not being able to mow your lawn properly:)
We wish you the Lord's blessings and entrust you to his care.

Hi Sam,
We as a family are so proud of how brave and strong you have been. I have been praying for you every free moment I get, even when I'm sitting at my desk at work and I think sometimes my coworkers see it and must be wondering what the heck I'm doing! I'm very happy to hear that you are feeling a bit better, it broke my heart when I first heard about all of this but we are all confident that God will prevail and keep you safe and healthy. I really wish that I could come see you but with work it is difficult for me to leave right now because we are so busy these days but I will try my best because it has been way too long since we have all seen each other. You look so much older in your pictures it is unreal! My hair is really long right now too, it seems that you, murph, and myself have taken on the beachbum look. Anyway, I will say goodbye for now but please continue to be positive and strong and send your love to the rest of the family.
LOVE YA LITTLE CUZ!!!

Debbie, Gerry and Sam we will be praying for you as you go through these difficult procedures today. I am glad to hear you will have a nice place to stay in White Rock. It's so beautiful there. Debbie special prayers for you while you look after Sam. I am happy you will get to see your girls this weekend. I am sure Sam is looking forward to it as well. Take care, it is wonderful to see all the prayers and support from everyone.
