Day 21

Sam's Day

2:30am Sam wakes up for a snack - cheese string (he is very polite and sensitive and does not wake up his mom) The doctor said these late night/early morning forays are inevitable.

6:38am Sam wakes up says it's breakfast time! Lucky for mom she's already awake! He gets his hot breakfast: bacon and homemade hash browns, grapes, milk, and pills (10)

7:05am Sam lies down on the couch and we have devotions and our morning stories. Sam naps on the couch, while mom cleans up dishes, calls home, journals and reads leukemia book.

8:30am Sam moves from the living room couch to sleep on the bed.

8:58am Sam returns to kitchen to hunt down some food for usual 2nd breakfast (like a hobbit): apple slices half a plum, some nachos and juice with his favorite (not!) medicine half dissolved in the juice

9:15am Brain is satisfied for now with recent input into stomach and he's back on couch for rest and later back to his bed

10:50am Computer beeping away and cell phone going off. Dad trying to get a hold of us. Sam wakes up to chat with dad for a few minutes. Make arrangements for Karly to visit this weekend. Yeah!! (we are so thankful for the help we have received for transportation for our family... this is *so* huge).

11:ooam Foody boy is dreaming about lunch, changes his mind on what he wants to eat about five times. Decides on using his Tim Horton's gift card for hot soup, bun and hot chocolate, but he will have to wait for awhile because his mom is talking to a good friend from Calgary and a few other phone calls conveniently stall the eating process.

12:10pm Eat in a quiet area at Timmy's. It a rainy day so we decide to just walk around the outdoor mall area. You wouldn't believe how thrilled Sam was to look around in Pier One and Winners. We end up in Save On for pork breakfast sausages and sourdough bread which he is craving! Good to walk and be outside, even if it is drizzling on us.

2:12pm Back in our new home, Sam toasts sourdough bread for 2nd lunch/snack. Sam's very, very tired today, so its back to lying on the couch. He didn't have a rest or nap yesterday afternoon because he was very excited about following Dr. Bond's order to go and see a movie this week. We have been waiting for a week day evening when there are the fewest people. He heard from many school friends that Prince Caspian was the best choice. They still have cheap Tuesdays here in the White Rock theatres, so we couldn't go that night because its always packed at $5.25 a ticket! So all day Wednesday he was anticipating our special date and the popcorn. We had a great date and spent an entertaining two and a half hours with only 12 other movie goers! Today he is feeling the effects of our adventures yesterday.

4:30 - 9:00 pm Sam spends a wonderful evening with Grandma and Grandpa. He hung out with Grandpa watching "politics"," ate a gourmet dinner lovingly made by grandma, and played games with them after dinner. I went to see Carson Holliers year end dance performance and was blown away by the extraordinary talent, creativity, costume designs, and professional quality of the show. I have never witnessed anything like that before. Carson, you, know Sam would have loved to have been there to see you and your troupe dance, but we know it was not possible. He would have loved it as much as I did. Thanks for the invitation and I was so very proud of you!! What a wonderful evening with your family.

9:30pm Back to our apartment and our nice warm beds on a cold, rainy night. We have two single beds in Sam's room. I watch him fall asleep and think about all that we've gone through in the past three weeks. It brings some tears to my eyes to think of our little boy going through all of this with such a great attitude. I thank my heavenly father for all that he has done for us as I close my eyes and don't have to wait long tonight for sleep to come...

"Lord, show us the Faher. That is all we need."
John 14:8

Good night.

Do you know how many times my phone rings and I hear Rosie, help!!!! Too Funny! Well, Sam we are at $2057.37 in the jar!!! I am getting nervous!!!Hope the rain stops down there and you guys see some sun, It is sunny here and that is good cause all the Grads are getting their pictures taken outside today. Hard to believe, but my Adam is graduating today and then I won't have anymore boys here at Cedars, I am really sad about that. Well, you take care and enjoy all that food!!!!

Hi Sam & Debbie,
Yikes--$2057.37-- I guess I better get busy sewing those comfort hats because alot of us soon to be bald eagles will be needing them to keep our heads from getting sunburned! I guess all the money we save on shampoo, creme rinse & hair products will have to be spent on suntan lotion! I'm looking forward to all the time I'm going to save not having to spend washing, drying & curling my hair. By the time it gets long enough to do that again, I'll have to learn how to do it all over again. Mrs. King is so excited about becoming a bald eagle, she phoned out church secretary at Lakewood Alliance church to announce it there on Sunday to help get the funds over $3,000. The mosquitoes are getting pretty fierce here now so its a good thing you are in White Rock instead of here trying to fight these little nasties off. Keep smiling, sleeping & eating all those yummy foods to keep up your strength. We continue to pray for all of you & praise God how is giving you all you need each day in so many ways.

Hi Sam and Debbie,
I think we will have to add to the shave for the brave fund at Cedars. I would love to see Rosie with her head shaved (well it is for a good cause). Maybe Gerry could post a picture for us out of towners. You are an amazing boy Sam and you are very much loved as all can see. Thinking of you today as you go for treatment. Alexis's grandfather made it to Calgary this week for a visit so we are very happy. I showed him your website and he was amazed. I find myself checking on you guys a couple of times a day. Take care and enjoy your visit with Carly this weekend.
God Bless you.
